RE: Radcliffe

Yesterday evening a single curlew flew over Dumers Lane whilst calling heading in the direction South West (towards the tram station area). Ta!

I have been watching an adult Dipper feeding two fledged juveniles this afternoon on the River Irwell. Could this indicate it's not as polluted as first thought?

On my way to work this morning i heard a yellow browed warbler call from the trees twice near withins lane but unfortunately I didn't have the time to pursue it properly. It was with a few mixed coal tits etc. Sadly, there is no further sign since I got back. Other birds in the area including a kingfisher, a flock of long tailed tits and 2-3 goldcrest near crow trees farm.

An unusually tame adult lesser black backed gull was seen picking up bits of food dropped by school kids outside Radcliffe hall. Must have come from a seaside resort of sorts somewhere possibly?

Kingfisher flew over Bury road at 5:55 pm near petrol station heading in the general direction towards the canal. He looked totally out of place flying over streets and buildings. I can only assume he was on migration as there are no suitable water areas immediately nearby, plus he was about 2-3 stories high.

A tip off thanks to a freind of mine. The drake (male) mandarin duck has been found again. He is currently on Bolton/bury canal near cams lane area but on the radcliffe side of the bridge.he has a mallard mate with him and is making sure the other mallard drakes don't get near her.

Large flock of jackdaws have been flying over my house over most of winter heading to Close Park. I estimate about 200. Likely to the roost I saw last month just behind the church. I suspect it will be the same flock I read about flying over elton in another post? So nice to see in the evening.

Ah, this will do nicely to report a very large roost of jackdaws near close park, Radcliffe, behind the church and Rectory Close. Must have been at least 400.

Male Mandarin near the green footbridge on the canal. Apparently it's been there for at least two weeks. I haven't seen it but I was sent a photo of it taken today.
